FAQs

How long is the First Aid (HLTAID011) certificate valid?

The HLTAID011 First Aid certificate is valid for 3 years. However, the CPR component (HLTAID009) should be renewed every 12 months, as recommended by Safe Work Australia. Both refresher courses are available through Accelerate First Aid.

How long does the First Aid course take?

Our course includes around 2 hours of self-paced online theory and a 1.5-hour face-to-face practical session. It’s designed to be time-efficient while still delivering thorough and effective training.

Can I be reimbursed for my First Aid course?

Yes—many employers cover the cost of First Aid training, especially when it’s a job requirement. It may also be tax-deductible if it’s work-related. Check with your employer and tax advisor for details.

Why isn’t the First Aid course fully online?

National training standards require a practical, in-person assessment. You’ll need to demonstrate CPR, wound care, and other emergency response skills. The online theory prepares you for this, but hands-on competence must be verified to ensure real-world readiness.

What are the prerequisites and physical requirements?

You must be at least 14 years old and able to complete online learning. Physically, you should be able to perform 2 minutes of CPR on a floor-level manikin, apply bandages, and move around comfortably during practical tasks. Basic English, literacy, and numeracy skills are also required. Contact us with any concerns before enrolling.

What will I learn in the First Aid course?

The HLTAID011 course covers:

  • CPR and AED use

  • Breathing and bleeding emergencies

  • Fractures, burns, and poisoning

  • Heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and anaphylaxis
You’ll gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience using professional training equipment.

What should I bring to the course?

Bring photo ID and wear comfortable clothes suitable for floor-based activities. Ensure your online theory is complete before your session. All training materials are provided. A pen and water bottle may also be useful.

Is this course nationally recognised?

Yes, the HLTAID011 First Aid course is nationally accredited and recognised across Australia. It complies with workplace standards and is delivered under the Australian VET framework.

Who needs First Aid certification?
