FAQs

How long is the CPR (HLTAID009) certification valid?

The CPR (HLTAID009) certificate is valid for 12 months. To stay current, Safe Work Australia recommends renewing your certification annually. Keeping your skills up to date ensures you’re prepared to act in real-life emergencies. You can easily complete your refresher training with Accelerate First Aid.

How long does the CPR course take?

The course includes about 1 hour of self-paced online learning, followed by a 45-minute face-to-face practical session. It’s designed for busy individuals, letting you complete the theory in your own time before attending the practical assessment.

Can I get reimbursed for this course?

Many employers reimburse CPR training as it’s often a workplace requirement. The course may also be tax-deductible if it relates to your job. Check with your employer or tax advisor for details on reimbursement or deductions.

Why can’t I complete the entire CPR course online?

Australian guidelines require hands-on assessment of CPR skills. You must perform CPR on a manikin for at least 2 minutes and demonstrate AED use in person. While theory can be done online, practical competency must be assessed face-to-face to meet national standards.

What are the entry and physical requirements?

You must be at least 14 years old and have internet access for the online component. Physically, you need to perform 2 minutes of continuous CPR on a floor-level manikin, which involves kneeling and getting up from the floor. Basic English comprehension is also required. Contact us if you’re unsure about meeting these requirements.

What will I learn in this CPR course?

The HLTAID009 course covers how to:

  • Assess emergency situations

  • Perform chest compressions and rescue breaths

  • Use an AED (defibrillator)

  • Respond to unconscious casualties

  • Follow current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines
You’ll practice using professional training equipment and gain real-world confidence.

What should I bring to the course?

Bring a valid photo ID and wear comfortable clothes suitable for floor-based activities. Make sure you've completed the online theory before attending. We supply all training equipment. You may also want to bring water and a pen for notes.

Is this CPR course nationally recognised?

Yes. Our HLTAID009 course is nationally accredited and recognised throughout Australia. It meets all state and workplace requirements and follows the latest Australian Resuscitation Council standards.

What’s the difference between CPR and First Aid certification?

CPR (HLTAID009) focuses only on resuscitation and AED use. It’s shorter and ideal for roles where only CPR is required. First Aid (HLTAID011) includes broader topics like bleeding, fractures, and medical conditions. Check your workplace’s requirements to choose the right course.

What happens in the practical assessment?

You'll demonstrate CPR on a manikin, use an AED, and respond to emergency scenarios under the trainer's supervision. If needed, free reassessment is available to help you succeed. Our trainers aim to support your learning while upholding national competency standards.
