HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid

To provide participants with training in advanced first aid response, the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This unit builds on HLTAID003 – Provide First Aid to include additional skills and use of a range of equipment.
Advanced First Aid has both practical and theoretical elements, where participants demonstrate procedures of techniques used and exhibit the necessary knowledge on administering advanced first aid in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines and the Health Training Package. Alternative assessments can be made (eg. Oral).
Our self-paced online assessment allows you to complete the theory component of your first aid training at a time that suits you. Work through the interactive modules on any device, review the material as often as you need, and progress at your own pace. Once finished, you’ll simply attend the practical session to demonstrate your skills and receive your nationally accredited certificate.
HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid – equips you with the skills to manage more complex medical emergencies. This includes:
Assessing casualties and recognising the severity of their condition
Performing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Managing bleeding, fractures, burns, and other injuries
Responding to medical emergencies such as asthma, anaphylaxis, and seizures
Applying first aid principles to preserve life, relieve pain, and support recovery
Understanding the responsibilities of a first aider in a workplace environment
The course typically runs over a full day or may be spread across multiple days, depending on the provider and delivery format. Check with your chosen training organisation for exact scheduling.
To keep your skills up to date, it’s recommended that you renew your HLTAID014 certification every 3 years. The CPR component (HLTAID009), however, should be refreshed every 12 months.

Before enrolling in HLTAID014, you must have completed HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This ensures you have the foundational life support skills needed for the advanced training.
HLTAID014 goes beyond basic first aid (such as HLTAID011) by offering more advanced techniques and broader emergency response training. It’s ideal for people in high-risk workplaces or those wanting to take on a leadership role in emergency care.
A USI is a unique reference number that gives you access to your nationally recognised training records in Australia. Since 2015, all students must have a USI to enrol in accredited training courses, including HLTAID014. You can create one easily at usi.gov.au.
