Purpose
First Aid Alive is committed to providing a fair, inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environment that promotes equal opportunity for all learners. This policy ensures that all learners are treated with dignity and respect and are able to access training and assessment services free from discrimination, harassment, or disadvantage.
Scope
This policy applies to:
- Learners and course participants
- Trainers and assessors
- Administrative staff
- Contractors and third parties involved in training delivery
Policy Statement
First Aid Alive is committed to:
- Providing equal access to training and assessment services
- Supporting diversity and inclusion
- Ensuring learners are not discriminated against based on age, gender, disability, race, religion, cultural background, sexuality, or personal circumstances
- Providing reasonable adjustments where appropriate to support learner participation and success
- Promoting a learning environment that is safe, respectful, and free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination
Access and Equity Principles
First Aid Alive will:
- Treat all individuals fairly and respectfully
- Encourage participation from diverse learner groups
- Identify and respond to individual learner needs
- Provide access to learner support services where required
- Ensure training and assessment practices are flexible and inclusive where possible without compromising competency outcomes
Learner Support
Support may include:
- Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) support
- Additional verbal instructions or clarification
- Reasonable adjustment during training or assessment
- Flexible learning arrangements where appropriate
- Referral to external support services if required
Reasonable Adjustment
Reasonable adjustment may be provided to support learners with additional needs, provided the integrity of the training product and assessment outcomes are maintained.
Examples may include:
- Additional time to complete assessments
- Verbal assessment methods
- Modified learning resources
- Assistance with reading or understanding instructions
All reasonable adjustments will be assessed on an individual basis.
Discrimination, Bullying and Harassment
First Aid Alive has zero tolerance for discrimination, bullying, harassment, victimisation, or inappropriate behaviour.
Any concerns or complaints will be managed in accordance with the Complaints and Appeals Policy.
Responsibilities
Management
Management is responsible for:
- Ensuring access and equity principles are implemented
- Providing a safe and inclusive environment
- Supporting staff and learners appropriately
- Responding promptly to complaints or concerns
Trainers and Assessors
Trainers and assessors are responsible for:
- Treating learners fairly and respectfully
- Identifying learner support needs
- Applying reasonable adjustment where appropriate
- Promoting inclusive learning practices
Learners
Learners are responsible for:
- Treating others respectfully
- Following organisational policies and procedures
- Communicating support needs where possible
- Contributing to a safe and inclusive environment
Complaints and Appeals
Learners who believe they have experienced discrimination, unfair treatment, or barriers to participation may lodge a complaint in accordance with the Complaints and Appeals Policy.
Review
This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure ongoing compliance with legislative, regulatory, and organisational requirements.
